Angel Stained Glass

Profile of the Artist

Dartmoor born stained glass artist and writer, Alan Endacott, was originally a museum curator by training. He was the founder curator of the Museum of Dartmoor Life in Okehampton and also ran the Finch Foundry Museum at nearby Sticklepath. In his spare time, he painted landscapes in oil and is still a keen photographer. He has written and edited books on local history and worked for English Heritage for eight years until made redundant early in 2004. This gave him the opportunity to develop a long-held interest in stained glass. By combining the study of the techniques of mediaeval, Victorian and modern stained glass artists with a City & Guilds course in Decorative Stained Glass, Alan has developed his own distinctive style, inspired by the landscapes and very special heritage of Devon and Cornwall that he has grown up with.

The artist using the mediaeval technique of removing shade paint to give form to an image – literally ‘painting with light’. The glass is then fired to fuse the remaining paint to the glass.
